1984 Voter's Roll Capture
NEW INITIATIVE
The Genealogical Society of South Africa has embarked on a brand new initiative. We plan to digitize the 1984 voter's roll which currently only exist on microfiche. 170 000 frames will have to be scanned and will cost in the order of R30 000 to complete in the space of 6 months.
We are asking for donations from genealogists to the order of R300 per person. In exchange the donor will receive a DVD with the captured data in PDF format. The amount of R25000 has already been pledged by a number of genealogists. The second phase of the project will entail the indexing of the maiden surnames of married woman - a task that will take another few months.
It goes without saying that this product is not only worth more, but will be sold for more than R300 per copy once the project has been completed.
Please contact the project leader Dennis Pretorius at krugersdorp@pixie.co.za to pledge your contribution.
Status of Project as at 13 September 2009
We are waiting for specialised scanning equipment to arrive from Salt lake City - compliments of the Genealogical Society of Utah. As soon as the equipment arrives we will commence the scanning of the 168,840 images.
