Editorial Policy

Familia as the Society's official journal, serves members as a vehicle for the publication of articles covering the subject of genealogy and family history, and including articles on other subjects, closely related to genealogy.

Only articles containing new information not previously published in other books and journals can be accepted.

Corrections to published information containing errors should be substantiated by reliable and verifiable references.

Preference is given to scientifically written articles that do not exceed 7-8 pages. (For the purpose of this policy, "scientifically written" is defined as well researched, accurate, and complete information, verifiable by third parties because all sources are quoted and bibliographies are provided.)

Genealogical tables should be presented using the genealogical method originally introduced by C de Villiers, which has become accepted in all the major SA genealogical reference works. (Record Identification Numbers as given by present day genealogical computer programmes may be added.)

Articles should preferably be supplied to the editor in MS-Word format and as email attachments to familia@ggsa.info. Alternatively submit articles as typewritten A4 sheets, preferably accompanied by a CD or 3.5” stiffy containing the document, and post them to:
