Speaker Adinda Vermaak (née Cillié)

Adinda is a Curriculum Advisor at the Western Cape Department of Education.

In 1993 she obtained a MA degree in history. The subject of her thesis  was the history of Kuilsrivier 1652-1905.

In 2004 she published Kroniek van ’n kontrei: Die verhaal van die NG Kerk Kuilsrivier

Subject Die Verseboek van die Bosmans

These poems were written between 1773 and 1814 on farms in the Bottelary near Kuilsrivier. Also included are five prayers by Isak Bosman written at the Coperberg in Namakwaland where he died in 1790 under unexplained circumstances.

The poems were written by Susanna Bosman (née. de Villiers) and her daughters Susanna Johanna Schabord (née Bosman) and Maria Margaretha de Waal (née Bosman).

The poems are, amongst others, about personal experiences such as the death of a child and the death of a parent, earthquakes they experienced; problems in the church and rhymed versions of the fiery repentance sermons from the pulpit.

Please contact our Chairperson, Andrew Kok (082 5006758) with enquiries.

Everybody interested is welcome to attend.
