National Cemetery Recording Project
Petro Coreejes-Brink
National
Ongoing
The aim of this project is to record all headstone inscriptions in South Africa, together with information of interest from neighbouring countries, as a guide to researchers. The data also contains burial registers and memorials. A CD containing this information is made available annually as a product of the GSSA.
Data Co-ordinators are Peter and Beverley Moss, and a team of volunteer recorders and data processors.
The new CD6 contains 269 233 names from 2277 cemeteries. Please contact Andre Heydenrych at aheydenr@mweb.co.za to order.
If you do notice any errors in the data, kindly inform us so that these can be corrected: email peter.moss@mweb.co.za . Thank you.
The files below focus on the following information:
- "Cem query" lists all cemeteries and shows processing status
- "Doc Query" lists all cemeteries with names of Recorder and Submitter. Note that, because of revisions and updates, one "Cemetery" may contain many documents, possibly from different Recorders
- "Homepage Monthly Doc Query" records the Documents added to the Cemetery Index for the previous month
- "Homepage Monthly Names Query" records the cemeteries where names were added to the database in the previous month.
- "Report Graph" provides information on data processing progress as at the end of the month stated.
- Copies of our quarterly newsletters are also included for information. To subscribe, please contact the Editor, John Schwartz, at johns@timco.co.za
